  • Older travelers

Excellent central location. Comfortable, rather funky, room, although on ground floor so unable to open window. Great, very varied breakfast, with good coffee. Fairly quiet at night. HOtel sent a very good driver to pick us up in Tianjin at the cruise terminal.

Other than the very helpful young reception person when we first arrived, no-one spoke English, which led to some confusion when we had questions re currency exchange, advice re restaurants, friends calling us and not being understood or able to leave a message - recommend the hotel have an English-speaking person on staff at all times. After all, the hotel bills itself as a "small luxury hotel". They have a way to go if they want to meet that standard.

  • Family with children

    Walking distance to forbidden city

hotel is small with no facilities and far from new city, no elevator, rooms are small in size, shopping areas are far.

  • Older travelers

It was a perfect stay, clean invironment, ice design, very relaxing

The only regret we had was to see that some of the nice features (parket, paintings) might have some problems of durability. very good materials have been used, but poor workmenschip was evident at some places. This is really a pity !

  • Family with children

    - The price was cheap

    - I am surprised that it is rated 5 stars, it can hardly reach 2/3 stars by any standards. Something is wrong here, it is the first time that I was not satisfied with a booking through Booked.net. The rooms and coordidors were smelly and lacking ventilation, the neighbourhood was filthy, and it didn't have an elevator.

  • Single

The neighborhood is quite nice and very peaceful at nights. The location is just perfect in the middle of Beijing.

The pictures are nicer than the reality. It seems the Hotel needs maintenance, a lot is broken or damaged by use.

  • Couple

The location is 10 minutes walk from the Forbidden city (you can also enjoy the view from the open roof), breakfast is not far from the status declared, there's wifi inside the room, price is adequate to the services provided.

It's far from "an experience fit for an emperor" 5 stars normally give, interiors were good in their first live, but now it all seems already old, detailed map is a must to find the place, don't ever leave the hotel without it in your pocket plus detailed address written in Chinese language (be advised that the map printed at the hotel card normally is not enought to find the place unless you're a scout), there's a public toilet just in front of the hotel - this was a bit unexpected supplement, staff team is not really friendly (but probably it's standard pattern in Beijing), we tried to visit fitness room one evening (not late at night), but it was locked.

  • Couple

The location next to Forbidden City is perfect. Breakfast was tasty, the room really interestingly designed. It's very pretty though perhaps slightly impractical in some ways. Staff very helpful.

Only two things, when we ordered a taxi through them it took about 30 mins to come and we had no idea it would be so long or we would have walked to get one ourselves. Also they asked 800y to organise a car to Mutianyu, we ended up getting that for 400.

  • Group of friends

Very helpful staff. Great central (tourist) Beijing location.

  • Single

The view from the roof was extra ordinary and a wonderfl expereince. The staff did attempt to help with information but they do not actually know enough about the local area from an outsiders view to understand what people want.

I was very horriffied at the breakfast. The staff cleared it away and would provide nothing for starving guests who had arrived in the last 30 minutes of breakfast. There is no printed information about breakfast. There is a Mystery jacuzzi on the roof advertised as part of your hotel but no information on getting access to the thing.Plus when I did actually get one of the 5 breakfasts I paid for the serving staff guy stood beside the open food picking his nose seriously for 30 minutes.i had to stop myself from throwingup. It was so revolting without washing his hands etc he then came over and moved my cutlery. Ruined the only breakfast I had. The food was not good and very expensive on the one evening I stayed for dinner.really if they could get the staff to stop pciking their noses and wiping their guck on the table cloths could be ok.

staff is incredibly well trained, very polite and really teats u like a little emperor. Double door sicurity makes u feel very easy. Bathroom is enormous and extremely modern. Floor is wood everywhere. Very chinese style. Breakfast is good and from this room u may see a very nice spot on Forbidden City. Since there are only 55 guest room it is not crowded at all. At least once it worth wale trying it

this is not what u think about a 5 star traditional hotel. The tube and the bathtub are in the middle of the room, shower and wc separated. The room is not squared and regular and sleeping squeezed in 2 walls is not something I like, even if bed was very big. The first impression u get is very antiseptic, It is just staff attitude which makes it warm. There is no elevator (but maybe this was due to hotel's style).

city centre; good breakfast; kind staff; good room; taxi hailing service; car rent service; money exchange service

far from metro; no early check-in

  • Couple

The hotel is very design oriented, with a furniture very well thinked. The staff is very helpfull and attencious. the hotel is very clean and also well located, next the forbiden city and near by shopping streets and other tourists atractions.

When we where at the hotel, the pool was under re-construction. Also the breakfast, besides been very diversified, is mostly chinese oriented, but even so, good. Some of the furnitures look old, and most of the staff does not speak good english. Also the wireless internet connection does not work but we managed to be connected by cable, that is standard in all rooms. Another point, that is not regarding the hotel, is some private taxi that take advantages of the ingenuity of the first comings (like us) and made us pay 400 yuans (around 50 euros) when the regular price from the airport to this hotel should be around 120 yuans (15 euros). At our arrival, the hotel staff explain us that we were robbed!

  • Single

It was great, I love the design of the hotel, the staffs are friendly and polite, they care about my comment of the room and improve it immediately, the location is great, and especially the surprising birthday wishes & b'day cake. I will definitely stay here again if I come back to Beijing

The wooden floor is very noisy (I heard this is part of the design, but sometimes it becomes really annoying.)

  • Single

Overall, the staff were great; reception staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The hotel and room design is inspired and of course the location is incredible. Had the feeling of a spa hotel and yet just out the door you had some real local life going on.

Breakfast was good but I needed to ask for a couple of things that had run out by 9am. The lack of a lift might be a problem for some travellers.

  • Couple

Fantastic service, hotel staff provided some useful tips just upon booking confirmation via email. A cup of tea for a welcome once we arrived in the hotel. Great location - direct proximity to the eastern walls of the Forbidden City, 15-20 min walking distance to Tiananmen. Money exchange (reasonable fx) available at the front desk, very comfortable room, mini bar included in the price, weather forecast and cookies brought to the room every evening, newspaper provided every morning, reasonable breakfast, Great Wall trip organised on a short notice + if we ever go back to Beijing, Emperor will be our choice.

Bathroom fixing can probably be renewed, that is a minor thing anyways.
